Welcome to the Summerland NSW Newsletter 21 February 2013

This week we are back to a normal type of Summerland NSW Newsletter.

However there have been several follow ups to the announcement last week of E-Zones and their implications.

You can find and read the original posts, comments and follow up items by clicking here.

As well last week's secret location has boat builders and other marine operators with a sinking feeling.

See why here.

Talking about Ballina Council, they have just announced a $500 000 upgrade to Sharpe's Beach at Lennox Head.

Plans include:

  • Upgrade of The Coast Road intersection.

  • Construction of a shared pedestrian path along the back of the foredune and the eastern frontage of the car park.

  • Unisex toilets and a surf life-saving storage building.

  • A new surf lifesaving observation tower.

  • Viewing deck and beach shower.

  • New tree planting and provision of picnic facilities.

The area has been used for informal beach parking since at least 1980, and it certainly needs tyding up.

Ballina Shire Council has taken out a lease over the privately owned part of the car park.

More information is available here on the council website (if you can find it!).

I wonder what E-Zone this development will be in?

The weather has been very kind to all in Summerland this last week. Well except for last night's fiery heavenly display, wild winds and heavy rain. But looks like all peaceable this morning.

It was great to see so many out recently and about enjoying what a fantastic place this is.

The Gift of Reading

summerland-reading

There is a certain sense of wonder that can only come from reading a passage that truly touches the heart. This sense of wonder has been passed down by generations since the earliest forms of Sanskrit in ancient India and perhaps even earlier in Hieroglyphs and other symbolic representations. Reading transports, informs and provides entertainment yet there are many people who may never know this.

There are possibly many reasons as to why someone cannot or does not read. And there is no shame in this. Circumstances may not have allowed for this to happen. However, there are people who do feel shame when they cannot read and those who were never encouraged or given the opportunities of learning the skills required.

One of the great gifts you can give your child is the love of reading. Once captivated by the magic of it they will always retain the desire to read. Reading becomes a necessity for employment in most areas and the pleasure of reading should never be denied.

This is one of my favourite quotations. It continues to inspire and makes me feel grateful that I am able to read it.

It was written by the ancient Indian philosopher/sage, Patanjali, who wrote the Yoga Sutras:-

"When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project; all of your thoughts break their bonds. Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive and you discover yourself to be a greater person than you ever dreamed yourself to be"

Ballina Players Present Move Over Mrs Markham

A large oval bed plays an important part in Ballina Players latest production, the classic bedroom farce, Move Over Mrs Markham.

Set in an elegant London flat, the plays action takes place over one remarkable evening.

The Markhams plan an evening out, so Joanna Markham ( Moya Telfer) agrees to her friend Linda Lodge ( Lyn Gale) using their flat for an assignation, and Philip ( Jordan Stotter) does likewise for Linda’s husband Henry (Peter Harding).  Meanwhile the au pair (Gabbi Mulder) and the interior decorator ( Dylan Wheeler) make their own plans for their employer’s absence.  The flat and its impressive bed will be far from empty.

Into all the confusion walks Miss Smythe (Fran Legge), a wealthy and very stuffy spinster, who believes that “there’s too much sex around these days”.

The resulting chaos is sidesplittingly funny, with misunderstandings, mistaken identities, deception, sexual innuendo and much hiding behind doors.

Move Over Mrs Markham was written by the successful team of Ray Cooney and John Chapman.

Move Over Mrs Markham, directed by Mary Richards, will be staged at the Players Theatre from March 16 to 31, with evening performances at 8 pm and Sunday matinees at 2pm.
