If you are travelling to or visiting the Gold Coast, our Summerland NSW website provides you with information on:
The Gold Coast is actually a large city with suburbs and is situated in the south eastern corner of the Queensland coast adjacent to Summerland destinations in Northern NSW. This landmark Australian city is famous for a myriad of stunning, golden sand beaches with top surfing locations. A relaxed lifestyle abounds with exciting theme parks, major shopping centres, a stimulating nightlife in a warm to humid subtropical climate.
The original indigenous people of The Gold Coast region included the Kombumerri, Minjungbal and Yugambeh tribes who referred to this area as ‘Kurrungal’ for its endless supply of timber, abundant wildlife and fresh water sources.
The coastal suburbs of the Gold Coast include Surfers Paradise, Southport, and Burleigh Heads. Starting at the Pacific Motorway at Tweed Heads, The Gold Coast runs parallel to the coast until it reaches Labrador then turns inland to meet the Pacific Motorway again at Helensvale.
No wonder the Commonwealth Games of 2018 are planned for hosting at The Gold Coast as it has so much to offer the tourist. With places to let loose and feel free with a smile on your lips and sunshine on your cheeks there is something for everyone.
The Gold Coast is a major tourist destination with The Gold Coast Airport just 15 minutes drive from the airport to the centre of the city. The airport services both interstate capital cities as well as major cities in New Zealand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Japan.
The closest major city to The Gold Coast is Brisbane which is about one and a half hours drive north of Coolangatta. You can catch the Air Train from one of the five Gold Coast stations or direct from the Airport. The majority of bus routes run along the Gold Coast Highway. Services are frequent during the day, with intervals of only 5 minutes between Southport and Burleigh Heads.
Whether on holidays, visiting attractions, commuting to work or travelling between Gold Coast and other destinations; available transport modes include hire cars, taxis, buses, ferries, rail and a monorail. A number of major roads connect the Gold Coast with Brisbane, New South Wales, and the surrounding areas.
The Pacific Motorway (M1) is the main motorway in the area. Commencing at the Logan Motorway (M6) in Brisbane, it travels through the inland Gold Coast region and links with the Pacific Highway at the New South Wales/Queensland border near the town of Tweed Heads.
Whether you are after a luxurious resort style accommodation, a motel, a private guesthouse, B&B, a caravan park or campsite, The Gold Coast has an array of accommodation to suit your budget.

Besides the range of beautiful beaches The Gold Coast boasts an exciting nightlife, top shopping locations and a World Heritage Listed Hinterland that borders the city to the west. The Gold Coast city is also surrounded by a complex of waterways and canal systems that are nine times larger than Venice, Italy. The artificial islands and upmarket homes make for an interesting exploration by boat.
The Great Dividing Range contains 206 kms of hinterland protected by Lamington National Park and is a World Heritage region with a shield of extinct volcanic craters. Only 30 minutes drive inland from the bustling coastal strip of The Gold Coast, the city alludes to rich farmland, vineyards, charming villages and rainforest reserves. There are rare and threatened animal species in the area as well as beautiful fauna that grows in the rich volcanic earth.
